Kindred Spirit Cocktails

Capturing the Spirit of Kindred: A Photographer’s Perspective

As a photographer, I’ve been fortunate to work with a diverse range of people and businesses, each with their own unique story. But every once in a while, you stumble upon a brand that feels like a true gem - Kindred Spirit Cocktails is exactly that. With a similar ethos to myself, Tom is absolutely dedicated to his craft, along with bringing energy and enthusiasm in all he does. Not forgetting the professionalism his upholds whilst being real.

From the moment I first me Tom at a wedding, I was struck by the passion that drives the heart of this business. This was a person I wanted to invest my energy in and support Kindred Spirits growth.

Founded in 2019, Kindred Spirit Cocktails was born from a love for quality cocktails and the art of hospitality. What started as a venture focusing on events and private functions quickly gained traction, only to face an unexpected curveball in the form of a global pandemic. Yet, as with any great cocktail, it’s the blend of creativity, resilience, and adaptability that makes something truly special - and Kindred Spirit Cocktails has that in spades...

When Covid-19 disrupted the hospitality industry, many businesses struggled to survive, but Kindred Spirit thrived by thinking outside the box. Their make-your-own cocktail kits were a stroke of genius, bringing a slice of bar magic into homes across the UK. It’s a testament to their commitment to not only serving great drinks but also creating memorable experiences. Not to mention the business sense of keeping themselves in the publics eyes; very similar to my approach when I composed "Your Lake District Wedding Guide" published 2020. That innovation laid the foundation for growth, enabling them to expand their operations and carve out a unique niche in the wedding and events market. Evidently, as things slowly progressed to 'normal', Tom focused of customer care, knowing all too well, one size doesn't fit all. Each Kindred Spirit assignment is bespoke and needs its own fitting operation, ensure a tasty and memorable experience.

Today, Kindred Spirit Cocktails is a powerhouse in the industry, catering to everything from weddings and private parties to public events like the Cartmel Races and Dickensian festivals. Primarily, based in Ulverston, Cumbria, Tom isn't shy about travelling for suitable occasions. They have even taken on roles in staff training and menu development for venues across the Lake District, sharing their expertise and elevating the cocktail game wherever they go. Not shy to help others, which as another asset that bodes well in the industry. What truly sets them apart, though, is their bespoke approach. Forget cookie-cutter packages - Kindred Spirit crafts each event as a one-of-a-kind experience, working closely with clients, with various investments, to turn their visions into reality.

As a photographer, I am lucky to photograph a wide range of things, on this occasion it was purely the artisan cocktails, clearly as what they are. No bells and whistles, just honest imagery which Kindred will use for future marketing and client cocktail lists. Whilst this project wasn't as creative and adventurous as I usually like, spending time with Tom, the dynamic force behind Kindred Spirit, made this an absolute joy. His dedication to his craft is palpable, but it’s his humour, energy, and authenticity that make him unforgettable. Until he asks you to try a shot of Carolina Reaper and Strawberry mead, by Brittons Meadery, BEFORE he finished the sentence, I'd knocked it back! ...Safe to say, he laughed, I cried, and I realised this gentleman doesn't hold any prisoners. I want to go to war with him, not against him! On that note, another business with plenty of growth potential in Cumbria, Brittons Meadery, producing a variety of Mead products in Barrow in Furness.

Whether he’s throwing flavours behind the bar or keeping spirits high with his infectious personality, Tom is the kind of person who turns any gathering into an experience. And if you’re lucky enough to share a drink with him, don’t miss out on his signature beer mat flipping - a quirky yet endearing tradition that perfectly captures his lighthearted nature.

What I admire most about Kindred Spirit Cocktails is their commitment to keeping it real. Tom’s journey - running bars across Australia, New Zealand, Wales, and now England - has clearly shaped his approach, blending global lessons with a personal touch. This isn’t just a business; it’s a reflection of a life lived with passion, adventure, and a deep appreciation for the magic of connection. Knowing his Kindred created career suits his family life, ensures his passion for the growth of this business won't die in the near future, and I am, oh so excited to see where it takes him.

For me, photographing their promotional shoot wasn’t just about showcasing stunning cocktails and beautifully crafted events. It was about communicating with the heart and soul of a business - a business that’s as much about the people as it is about the drinks. Kindred Spirit Cocktails isn’t just a brand; it’s an experience - a celebration of creativity, resilience, and the simple joy of raising a glass with kindred spirits.

If you’re planning a wedding, event, or simply looking to elevate your cocktail game, I can’t recommend Kindred Spirit Cocktails enough. With their bespoke approach, innovative spirit, and Tom’s unforgettable charm, you’re not just booking a service; you’re creating memories.

As I come to the end of this blog I realise the majority is focused on Tom, but isn't that what any great business is about... The business owner and their focus on growth and success, with people at the its heart.

Cheers to that!
