Autumn Lake District Wedding at Lancrigg, Grasmere
A warm, handcrafted celebration that began with a chilly wild dip, butterfly blessings, followed by the best dance floor energy imaginable.

A Unique Wedding in the Heart of the Lake District
If you’re planning a Lake District wedding and searching for a venue filled with charm, nature, and mountain views, Lancrigg in Grasmere is a hidden gem. One that, infact, only appeared on my radar in the past 16 months - and boy I am glad it has!
This wedding brought together everything the Lakes are loved for, freedom, fresh air, wild adventure, rich seasonal colour, heartfelt details, and relaxed celebration.
With the Lake District being the most travelled to wedding destinations in the UK, The Lancrigg encapsulates everything you would desire a Lake District wedding to offer.

Starting the Wedding Day with an 8am Wild Swim
Not every groom begins their day with a cold dip in Grasmere, but this adventurous guy gathered his closest people and took a chilly 8am plunge in the nearby waters. With the traditional Cumbria weather beating down heavy rain, the lads marched beside Rothay River until they appeared at Grasmere water for a very chilly dip.
That being said, were were all soaked to the skin, before we even entered the water.
It was the perfectly refreshing, joy-fuelled start to a Lake District wedding - daring, invigorating, and the kind of memory that defines a once-in-a-lifetime day. It is safe to say there were a few moaners amongst the attendees. Nevertheless the smile on the grooms face was priceless!

Bridal Prep at Lancrigg: A Butterfly Moment
From the wonderfully wet wedding morning start, to cosy and calm. Within Lancrigg, the rooms, flooded with warming Autumnal light through towering windows, brought comfort and a really homely feeling.
Bridal prep unfolded with details sitting together that boasted a welcoming heated palette. Then a butterfly appeared - settling gently amongst the flat lay arrangement composed for the precious details of Jenny and James day to look back on.
The butterfly - A quiet, magical moment that felt like a blessing on the day. As it joined us on the dresses embroidered lace, alongside the warm tones, the delicate butterfly created an unforgettable image and unexpected moments.

Warm, Autumnal Wedding Styling Inspired by the Lake District
This celebration was a masterclass in autumn wedding styling:
A lace wedding dress with sheer embroidered sleeves, perfect for movement and storytelling images.
A bouquet rich with burnt orange, rust, deep red, dried florals, pinecones, and textured seasonal foliage.
Bridesmaids in rust-red gowns, matching the landscape’s warm tones.
Groomsmen in tweed suits and earthy ties, blending with the woodland surroundings.
Everything was grounded in the natural beauty of the Lake District’s autumn palette.

Handcrafted Wedding Details and Personal Touches
To make their day truly their own, the couple created a range of personalised details that guests adored:
Custom pint glasses for the wedding party
Personalised newspapers featuring stories, photos, and inside jokes
Handmade décor and signage, crafted with love
Rustic autumnal touches that tied the whole aesthetic together
These unique elements made the wedding feel warm, welcoming and completely authentic.

The Couple’s Dog: The Wedding Day Superstar
No Lake District wedding blog is complete without mentioning the couple’s dog—who absolutely stole the show.
Calm, adorable, photogenic (very different to its attendance on the pre-wedding portrait, but we certainly laughed), and proud to be part of the action, this four-legged friend featured in portraits, barking on questions during their barn wedding ceremony, too!

Relaxed and Informal Group Photos at Lancrigg
The couple wanted natural, fun, informal group portraits - a perfect fit for the relaxed woodland surroundings. Booted up ready for some time alone, the couple adventured the grounds of Lencrigg, Grasmere, ensuring they kept moving to keep warm in the crisp November air. Helm Crag stood tall in the background as Jenny and James danced, laughed and embraced each others company. Helm Crag holding great meaning for this couple - one of the reasons when Lancrigg was absolutely their venue.
Guests gathered around for an energetic sparkler portrait, ensuring we utilised the limited light for this November wedding.
Stretching the fun further, the bridal party surrounded Lancriggs Land Rover holding sparklers, cheering, laughing, singing, dancing, and fully embracing the moment. Aside from show stopping images, this was a hearty expression of the feelings among their nearest and dearest, the couple have surrounded themselves with.
Nothing about this Lake District wedding was, stiff line-ups; everything was joyful energy of family, friendship and celebration.

A Lake District Wedding Dance Floor to Remember
As the evening fell, the celebrations exploded, and I didn't expect anything less!
This wasn’t a quiet, polite first dance kind of night—this was a full-throttle dance floor with energy bursting from every corner. Jenny and James, opened the dance floor with a slower paced song that erupted into spins, lifts and a whole load of wild moves which were a pleasure to document!
Lanterns, warm lighting, and unstoppable enthusiasm created the most electric atmosphere that continued into the night.
If you’re dreaming of a Lake District wedding party that truly goes off, Lancrigg delivers plenty of dance floor space and delightful lighting for those epic dance portraits displaying all the action.
