New House Farm Wedding, Crummock water...
If you’re searching for a New House Farm wedding in Lorton or looking for inspiration for a Lake District barn wedding, Jenny and Rafael’s day on 14th June 2025, perfectly captures why this venue is one of Cumbria’s most atmospheric places to get married.
Set in the heart of the Lake District, New House Farm is a Grade II listed country home and barn venue nestled within fifteen acres of private grounds in Lorton Vale. Surrounded by rolling fells and open countryside, it offers couples that authentic Lake District backdrop, whatever the weather decides to do.
And as any local wedding photographer will tell you… June in Cumbria keeps you guessing.

Why Choose New House Farm for a Lake District Wedding?
Jenny and Rafael chose New House Farm because of its incredible location, because it is close to home yet completely immersed in Lakeland scenery. The venue’s rustic stone barns, gardens and fell views make it ideal for couples wanting their wedding photographs to truly reflect the Lake District.
One of the biggest advantages of a New House Farm wedding is the flexibility of space. Cumbria weather can shift quickly, but the venue offers generous indoor areas within its beautifully restored barns. When rough rain passed through during the day, celebrations flowed effortlessly inside where it is warm, relaxed and atmospheric. Obviously, we stepped back outdoors to capture portraits against dramatic skies.
“We chose New House Farm because of its location close to home and being surrounded by fells which give an amazing atmosphere… No matter what the weather. We wanted our wedding photos to truly reflect the Lake District.” Jenny
For couples planning a Lake District wedding, having both stunning outdoor backdrops and practical indoor options is invaluable.

A Natural, Boho-Inspired Barn Wedding Style
The styling of this New House Farm wedding felt organic and beautifully unforced.
Soft pink florals ran throughout the Summer wedding day, with delicate roses, textured greenery and trailing ribbons that caught the wild wind. The bridesmaids wore deep green and sage green dresses in varying designs (something I love seeing brides do, to ensure everyone looks their best!), creating depth and contrast against the natural stone barns and countryside backdrop.
The palette worked seamlessly with the venue. The soft pinks really added a touch of joy to this drizzly and dull day. Nothing felt over-styled. Instead, it complemented the rustic charm that makes New House Farm in Lorton so sought-after for barn weddings.
“We loved the rustic look of the barn. Our style plans weren’t strict, with lots of do-it-ourselves touches, kind of boho and relaxed.” Jenny

The Bride & Groom
Jenny wore a flowing, off-the-shoulder gown with soft draping across the bodice and a skirt that moved effortlessly in the wind. Teamed with an alterative embroidered veil that complimented the pinks and greens on the day. Jenny also selected alternative floral pink shoes for her wedding day which sat perfectly alongside all her accessories and colours for the day.
When we later visited Crummock water, the fabric created the most cinematic movement against the dramatic Lakeland landscape. Something that I enjoyed filming alongside photography.
A delicate floral crown echoed the pink tones of the bouquet, adding a subtle bohemian touch that suited the relaxed barn setting perfectly.
Rafael wore a dark suit paired with a soft blush tie and boutonnière, tying in beautifully with both the bridesmaids’ dresses and the floral details. The overall look felt cohesive, natural and in keeping with a Lake District countryside wedding.
Jenny embraced the day not only as a bride but also as a mother, balancing both roles with warmth and calm throughout the celebrations.
A Barn Ceremony with Garden Views
The ceremony inside the barn at New House Farm felt intimate and heartfelt. Harp music filled the space, adding softness and elegance, while views out toward the garden reminded everyone of the stunning Lakeland setting beyond.
Later, during the wedding breakfast, there was little quiet as all their 200 guests interacted and embraced the beauty of the barn all dressed up. Guests chatting, laughing, reconnecting. Those are often the most powerful images from a Lake District wedding day, not just the scenery, but the raw connection.
“I loved the ceremony with the harp and the view out to the garden, it felt so calm and special. But I also loved sitting down for food and taking in all the people chatting and laughing together. That was really lovely.” - Jenny

Garden Games at a New House Farm Wedding
When the skies occasionally cleared, the lawn came alive, with garden games:
Giant Jenga towers wobbling under pressure
Hula-hoops spinning,
Paddle ball rallies underway
Games of scatch drawing in competitive spirits.
What I loved most was how it wasn’t just the children getting involved. Guests of all ages joined in, shoes kicked off, jackets abandoned, laughter carrying across the grass. It created such a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere.
And the fun didn't stop there, when the weather rolled back in the Hulo-hoops and Jenga headed inside - such a quality to have at a scenic Lake District wedding venue - ample indoor space.
For couples considering a New House Farm wedding, the outdoor space offers fantastic opportunities for relaxed entertainment between ceremony and evening celebrations, whilst their outdoor space is the perfect 'back up' plan.

Crummock Water Wedding Photos | Lake District Portrait Location
One of the highlights (for me the photographer) on the day was a short trip to Crummock Water one of the most breathtaking lakes in the Lake District and only a short drive from Lorton.
Surrounded by fells including Haystacks, High Stile and Red Pike, the setting offered a dramatic and peaceful contrast to the energy of the wedding day.
“We chose Clare after recommendations from friends. We loved her style — the way she uses the light and the environment around you. It felt completely right for a Lake District wedding.” - Jenny
The wind lifted Jenny’s veil, the sky shifted with layered clouds, and the sudden stillness of the water created the most atmospheric backdrop.
We timed our visit perfectly, between the clashy Cumbrian weather.

Pizza Van, Wedding Cake & A Wild Ceilidh
As evening settled over Lorton Vale, the celebrations moved into full swing.
Wood-fired pizzas were served from a converted horsebox, a relaxed, sociable and perfect for a barn wedding evening. The wedding cake was accompanied by generous traybakes, keeping guests fuelled before the dancefloor filled.
The ceilidh brought incredible energy to the barn with 100 guests linking arms, spinning across the floor and learning steps as they went. It was joyful, slightly chaotic and completely fitting for a Lake District barn wedding.
Sparklers closed the night beneath the darkening Cumbrian sky with a glowing finale to a day full of warmth and personality.
A little bit of wedding advice from the bride, Jenny - “Planning a wedding while having a newborn definitely keeps you busy,” she laughed. “But seeing everyone together in such an incredible setting made it completely worth it.”

Rafael and Jennys wedding day was built on connection, both with family and friends but also the connection to their surroundings. With many personal touches along the way, it was focused on thoroughly enjoying their day with their loves ones - whatever the weather!
The combination of outdoor and indoor space at New House Farm was the perfect canvas for this informal Lake District wedding that was battered with typically clashy Cumbria weather.
Their laid back approach allowed everyone to streamlinely adjust to the conditions without limiting fun and interactions along the way.
